Our History
Rotary International admitted The Rotary Club of Kaua'i on August 23, 1937 as club number 4378. John Caldwell, Secretary of the Rotary Club of Honolulu, along with fellow members, Wayne Stewart and Charles Loomis teamed in the organization of this Club. The Charter president was W.P. Alexander. This was the fourth Rotary Club to be formed in the State of Hawaii. Today, it is the oldest of the six Rotary Clubs on Kaua'i. It has been given credit for chartering the other clubs on this very lush and beautiful island – the Garden Isle, Kaua'i.

Welcome to the Rotary Club of Kauai! We are also known as the mother club to all the other clubs on Kauai. Our club meets every Fridays for lunch!

My first meeting as President 2011-2012 is now under my belt. I have to admit that even though this is my second time around, I was still as nervous as a first time President. Fortunately, I didn't hit my thumb instead of the bell. Mahalo Nui Loa to all the members of the Rotary Club of Kauai for helping me get through it!!
Congratulations to Past President Craig DeCosta and club members for all the awards won for a remarkable year in Rotary. Congratulations also to Bill Harper for his award for outstanding service as a Rotarian, Tom Lodico for completing the District 5000 Leadership Academy - a first on Kauai, and Tom Lodico again for ten - count them people - ten years of perfect attendance. You all make our club very proud. Dennis Fujimoto gave a great presentation on the Lights on Rice Street Christmas Parade. This parade was about to die. Did you know it is one of the top 20 national award winners for events and has been featured on HGTV? Watch for more exciting news to come about the parade.
We have several new projects and many more ideas for this year. As they say during the football season, "Are you ready for some football?" I am privileged to be your Quarterback. It takes a full team to win the game. I know we will be winners this year!!
This week we are privileged to have District Governor Laurie Yoshida as our guest speaker. I think most of you, if not all of you, know Laurie as she is our "Kauai Girl" and classmate of mine during the Centennial year: 2004-2005. I look forward to seeing 100% attendance to show our support for one of our own.
100% Paul Harris Fellows

The Rotary Club of Kaua'i is one of the few 100% Paul Harris Fellows (PHF) in the world. Actually five out of the six Rotary Clubs on Kaua'i are 100% PHF. The sixth club, the Rotary Club of Kalepa Sunrise, which was just chartered on April 1, 2002, is already working on being 100% PHF. Few geographical areas can claim this distinction. So, if you are visiting our island, you may be pleasantly surprised to see a lot of 100% Paul Harris Fellows banners.

The world’s first service club was founded on 23 February 1905 when lawyer Paul Harris and three friends met in a small office in downtown Chicago. These men wanted to rekindle in the “turn-of-the-century city” the spirit of friendliness they had known in their hometowns. Word of the club soon spread and others were invited to join.
